The Omani Society for Hereditary Blood Disorders signed a memorandum of understanding today with both Sultan Qaboos University Hospital and Oman International Hospital, aiming to improve the quality of health services provided to sickle cell anemia patients, through an initiative to perform joint replacement surgeries for a number of patients, funded by Petroleum Development Oman (PDO).
The memorandum was signed on behalf of the Omani Society for Hereditary Blood Disorders by Professor Dr. Salam bin Salem Al-Kindi, Vice Chairman of the Society’s Board of Directors, while Dr. Abdulaziz bin Mahmoud Al-Mahrazi, General Director of the Hospital, signed it on behalf of Sultan Qaboos University Hospital, General Director of the Hospital, and Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al-Maskari signed it on behalf of Oman International Hospital.
Petroleum Development Oman will allocate funding to cover the costs of joint replacement surgeries for a number of patients with sickle cell anemia, These surgeries will be performed by a specialized medical team at Oman International Hospital, which will provide all necessary equipment and medical care, while Sultan Qaboos University Hospital will medically prepare patients before the surgeries and provide necessary post-operative care.
To ensure the success of the initiative, a supervisory committee has been formed, chaired by the Omani Society for Hereditary Blood Disorders and including representatives from Sultan Qaboos University Hospital and Oman International Hospital, to monitor the progress of the initiative and overcome any challenges that may face its implementation.
Professor Dr. Salam Al-Kindi, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Omani Society for Hereditary Blood Disorders, confirmed that this initiative is an important step to improve the lives of sickle cell anemia patients, by providing advanced medical solutions that contribute to enhancing their quality of life and reducing their suffering.
For his part, Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Mahrazi, General Director of Sultan Qaboos University Hospital, expressed the hospital’s commitment to providing the best medical services to ensure the success of the surgeries and achieve the desired benefit for patients, praising the spirit of cooperation between health and community institutions.
Dr. Sultan Al-Maskari, Director of Oman International Hospital, confirmed the hospital’s full readiness to provide necessary care for patients with high efficiency, commending the efforts of all concerned parties to make this humanitarian initiative successful.
